I just noticed today that when my spindle router sets up a certain resonance(due to direction of cut and RPM)that the cooling fan comes to a stop.As soon as the cut changes to a different direction the fan startes up again.I don't have a lot of hours on this spindle,I'd say less than 100.
Has anyone noticed this happening. Is my cooling fan burning out?

Brian,

This is a serious problem that you need to take care of. Fan problems can result in overheating and shortened spindle life. Contact PDS or Shopbot support.

This is a problem with PDS using a sleeve bearing fan instead of a ball bearing fan. The fan is easily replaced and it's not too expensive. A search on this forum will give you the model number you need and the fans can be ordered from Mouser Electronics. If you can't find it, let me know and I will get it for you.

Thanks for the quick answers. The bushing must be crapping out.
I stopped the fan with the end of a pencil and the spindle router was quiet again(I only ran the router for 1 min.).I hope the next unit lasts a little longer than this one did.
I will contact PDS and see how many arms & legs they want for this unit.

Thanks Brian
