This might be common knowledge but no one ever told me so i'll share this here. I was cutting some 1.75" thick maple and the roughing cut was taking a lot of material. I knew my vacumn wouldn't hold down the material so i wanted to make something that if it got hit with the bit wouldn't hurt much. I took some 2x4's and notched them to the size of my material and squeezed my material between the two. Well after the first blanket box lid I found that because i was taking so much material out that the material tended to warp and curl up on the sides making the cut uneven and deeper on the sides. So i just took strips of mdf (represented by the brown coloring) screwing it down to the top of the 2x4's and when i cut the piece in the picture i had no issues with curling.
