Do any of you guys who produce lots of MDF doors use diamond bits? How much better are they than standard carbide? I've got a price from my local supplier, 2 bit set is $646, 3 bit set is $798. for you guys that have made the switch, is it worth it?
Thanks, Kip
Kip,
How many doors do you make and what is the cost of the cutters that you are currently using? I use some bits from whiteside and they do me good , reasonably priced , What are the profiles you use?

Gene,
I use Whiteside cutters exclusively for my MDF doors. I might make 60 - 80 in a good week. Trouble is, I might not get but 30 or 40 good doors with a sharp bit. I use the 5610 and 5720 profiles I think and I pay around $42 and $72 respectively. Thanks, Kip
On the 5610 it cost about .70 cent per door @ 60 doors per bit and on the 5720 you spend 1.20 per door @ 60 . If you buy the 2 pc set for 646 you need to machine 538 doors per bit to break even . I realy dont think they are that much better. Do you have yours resharpened ? If you do then it brings the cost down further. Just my way of thinkin'
