for a 2700.00 tool you would think they could give you a better wrench then a stamped metal wrench. so I fixed mine with some ebony and inlay. the inlay is bloodwood.

(G) it is not hard to do. I did not have time to cut the mortise on the cnc so I just did it on my metal mill. I doubt the handle will look nice for long with use but still. use a really hard tropical for longevity.

Nice Steve, how did you do that inlay? V carve or some other technique/software?

I used v carve. there have been posts on how to do it. it's pretty simple do your standard v carve for the negative and for the positive mirror the piece put about a 1/2" or a bit less border around it highlight both and do a v carve toolpath with the same and end depth say .125 depending on how deep the first is. do that cut slowly as you are cutting deeper then .125 about 1/4" or so in a single pass. the put lots of glue on both pieces and use way more clamp pressure then you think you need and let it dry overnight.

Paul Zank did a great step-by-step article for the wiki on that technique for doing inlays using VCarvePro.

Steve, that's amazing!
Hm, I might have to purchase VCarve Pro sooner than I had planned, that is one killer feature right there.

I dont have vcarve pro, I have artcam pro 8. has anyone used this v carve technique with artcam? will it do this with the same parameters? If not, can anyone offer guidance ? Really like this technique but dont need 2 programs that do the same thing?
I have photo carve from vectric but havent gotten vcarve pro ...yet. Thanks, rick

Artcam Pro has a built-in inlay toolpath selection...It is very simple to use...draw a vector and use the inlay feature to cut both the male and female...a lot less difficult than you think...

Roy,
Does the Artcam software round out the sharp points to allow for cutter diameter? The V Carve approach allows arbitrarily sharp points and thin traces in the inlay while still using large V bits.
