Why is it that whenever I try to cut out a closed shape (like a circle or square, etc.) I get a shallow machined "miss" mark that is just outside the outline of the shape? This occurs when the bit first pierces the material to begin cutting the affected shape.

The top of my material looks like the attached sketch ...

This seems to happen regardless of whether I am doing a profile or pocket toolpath.

Thanks!

What software are you using to create your tool paths?

That is usually an artifact of runout or slop in the machine linkages. The sideways force during the plunge differs from the force during cutting. You can try to pocket from the inside out or use lead-ins or ramps instead of straight plunges.

I am using Corel Draw v. 12, and exporting to an .EPS to bring into PartWorks.

David - what should I check to see if I can correct the runout or slop in my linkages?

Thanks!
