again ... I was manually running the bit across the table with the spindle turned on... I was using the keyboard to move in the y direction. When I let go of the arrow key the bot did not stop... it did not stop for the space bar .. it did stop moving when the panic button was pushed, but the spindle did not shut off.. I then turned off the power to the main box.. the spindle kept on running... I had to go to the main panel and shut off the breaker to the bot to get it to stop.. this sure don't seem right to me.. I thought that on a prs alpha the spindle was controlled by the bot system..
any thought.. or should I be placing a call to tech help

An HSD spindle should stop - mine does. I don't know about a PC router.

Tech support call. Might be a grounding issue. These machines are VERY sensitive to grounding problems.

it will stop running but the electronic brake does not work so it will keep spinning till it stops. or till you reset everything. i kind of sucks but that's the way it is.

Mitch...
This almost sounds like a stuck key, maybe the arrow you were using. IF the arrow key was stuck down... the bot would not stop and the next key you pushed (space) would not register.

The Estop stopped the machine, and most likely the power to the spindle, problem is, with no power... no electronic braking. Good system, but not perfect.

Blow out the keyboard.

I've had my machine "run away" like this on a couple of occasions (keyboard is clean, but cordless - might be part of the problem). Once it hits the hard stops it "stops"! Good thing I'm only jogging at 6ips when it hits. After a hit, I rezero everything because the machine has had some sort of a brain-fart.

Don...
You should hear what it sounds like when it hits the prox at 25ips

Best investment i Made for a keyboard was a Flexible sealed keyboard from Staples. On sale for $10.00 nothing get in the keys!
Works great!

well I took the keyboard out into the back field and blew it up like Gary said... was a whole lotta fun, but not sure how that is gonna help..

I will have to wait and see if it happens again.. how long will the spindle keep going if there is no brake.. it still sounded like it was powered up till I tripped the breaker

Mitch - Are you running the early 3.6 software? I had this same problem after switching to 3.6.1 and a couple of others did too. You may want to update to the latest version.

I have to chime in and agree with Edward. My shopbot got a mind of its own a few times until i figured out my keyboard was the cause. I also went to the $10 sealed rubber keyboard and haven't had a problem since. I just blow it off with air once in a while or run it under the faucet on occasion.
