View Full Version : Would Descartes own a shopbot?

I woke up in the middle of the night again with shopboting on my mind and this stuck in my head: "Shopbotto ergo sum"
At least I know I exist. When I get caught up on my signmaking I am going to carve a plaque for my shop with that quote on it.
Back to work now.

If you have time for such thoughts you are obviously not working hard enough :-)
I try not to let thoughts like "how much denser would the air be if all the tires in the world suddenly deflated" keep me awake at night.

For further discussion on this subject refer to one of Bill Cosby's early works "Why is There Air?" I'm sure you will be amply enlightened.

That reminds me - I have been so busy making signs I haven't changed the air in my truck tires in ages. So much to do and so little time.

Bruce, a quick question about changing the air in your tires:
Since the air at sea level is denser than air at altitude, does it require more force to put 35 pounds of thick air into your tires in Houston than to put 35 pounds of thin air into your tires in Denver?
Slowly I turned...

Randy 35 pounds is 35 pounds.
Kind of like feathers and lead...
Although the density will change the rate at the air builds up to those pressures!

Favorite tagline from the pre-Internet days of FidoNet:
"I think not", said Descartes, and promptly vanished!
2nd favorite:
"I am Homer of Borg, prepare to be assim.. oohh, doughnuts!"

Brett,
Please test your idea, do a sample, and post the results with a photo.
I've been posting for years in order to help others. Each time I come up with a new tehcnique and paste it on this forum, it's tried and proven with attached photo's.
The suggestion "It Should Work" isn't fair.

I'm greatly relieved to find this forum has not become overly philosopical, and that someone simply put Decartes before da horsin' around.

Randy,
Now I'll have a harder time sleeping with the concern about thin/thick air. We have wet air here in the Pacific NW and how will that affect things. I am going to try putting fewer pounds in my tires what with the cost of gas and all - cutting back on the weight should help.
Brett and Don - LOL!!!

Decartes before da horse... :-)
Helium in the tires should solve all the issues. Less weight and if I understand the warranty on Helium is much longer than on standard pheumatic fluid.

pheumatic.. :-)
If we could learn to convert BS to bio-diesel we could all retire. Of course we would still be spending all our time tinkering with our shopbots.

We don't put nearly as much air in our tires here in Texas as the rest of you guys. Our air, as with everything else in Texas, is bigger. :-)

I live in OH and we have to change from winter air to summer air for our tires. Just done that as summer is approaching.
