This was a little something my wife volunteered me for.. as usual it started out simple and ended up taking many hours.. carved from a piece of old growth red cedar.. 400 to 500 years old..

Very nice! How was the cedar to carve? How did you finish it?

Mitch, I have some old growth pine from Logs End in Ottawa. Where did you come across the cedar?

Being old growth, the cedar was very tight grained.. when I moved east I brought a number of pieces from vancouver island. This was from a tree that had been burnt a while back.. it was cut and milled at an old saw mill for the couple that owned the trees. I swapped some 2 x 6's for a truck load of large dimension stuff.
It was finished with 4 coats of urethane ..
