Imaginitive! How did you black the letters? Spray and sand?

I use a black stencil ink. Spray it on and sand... just like you said. The stencil ink drys really fast and it sands off much easier than paint.

I'm unfamiliar with stencil ink. Could you provide a source where I can find out more?

I buy the stencil ink from Grainger. It's manufactured by Marsh and comes in spray can or quart jugs.
