Well making things easier for customer is not their Mission Statement. I have Mega Collection 3 and have their website linked so my customers can choose graphics from the VERY large selection. The issue I had inquired about is why the website graphic numbers do not match the book number? Well here is their email response -"For your customers, we would like to have it be easy to match - but, for our business we can't because no one would need to buy a book - they would only need the CD. We are sorry that we can not make it easier for your customers."
My customers frequently go to their website and send me a number of the graphic they want for the project. Problem is I have to go on the site as well and find the graphic and then look for the picture in the book to use it. They also don't have the book on the cd as a pdf and they told me before that they sell the book so if they put it on the cd no one would buy it. So if I loose my book or it gets damaged I have to buy on from them. In these times I would think a company would care about making things easier for thier customers and providing good services. In MY opinion they don't care and are only interested in selling to us. Vectorart 3d guys are excellent and get back to me asap when I need a graphic. Maybe they should start doing 2d graphics too. I did not know we could just buy the book without buying cd collection, where is that on the site.
Very, very disappointed in them. :(

Geez, I just had a brain wave.....
They have the books and cds by - page number and then graphic number on the page.
Here is a way to make it easy for both web and books
M01-045-22 (that is collection Mega 1- page 45 - graphic 22)
Friggin rocket science :p

The book alone is not for sale, that's not their point. What they are really saying is without the book it would be much easier to pirate the CD. Copying a large book is more prohibitive and you are less likely to "share" it as a freebee to a friend. Thus alone, the CD is not as useful.
I do not totally agree with their reasoning though I do understand it. It does beat using a licensing dongle though. I worked on systems for an embroiderer once and his graphics required a dongle to work with the post processor.
James does an EXCELLENT job and I've often wondered just how many of his purchased 3D images are circulated. (come on guys, you know who you are).
Think about it this way, for those of you that have invested hours in a production file (like mine) and make money with it, would you give it away? If you sold files, would you sell them without some kind of an agreement not to redistribute it? If you make all or most of your money selling these files... wouldn't you be interested in ways to protect them and prevent "sharing" as much as possible?
I'm just saying...

Hi Robert, I will have to admit I am having a bad day and might seem angry. My back is REALLY bad today and I can't sit, stand or even laying down is uncomfortable. Really ticking me off and I am not getting any work done.
Vectorart is not the same company as vectorart 3d is it? I have had nothing but great service from James and the 3d guys. And they do supply pdf to print off catalogs with their collections....at least mine was. I do understand the frustration they must get with pirating but why not make the numbers on the web match or print a reference sheet with the book for easy look up. I am going to make one or have my kids do it. It will make things alot faster and less time consuming for me. Good to hear from you again. You must be busy. Hope so. :)

NP Glen. I use the <rant> @*% </rant> tags often myself.
If it makes you feell better give me a call and I'll put you on hold while you rant as much as you want. :)
I've been busy for one reason or another. I took the normal January lull as an opportunity to get things done around the house. Sales are picking back up though, seems like I'm building houses daily and we've done a couple of educational events already. We'll be attending the Jamboree and exhibiting at the Maker Faire. I had to wait to make the decision because we had a tentative program with a regional Boy Scouts program. That event is still on but since we won't be presenting I sent materials and house kits. We did get to present to 80 kids (the largest group yet) a couple of weeks ago. They got to see and hear live bats flying overhead during a nature walk. I covered 5 miles that day.
I've been trying to fit the forum into my daily routine, but it's been hit and miss.

For clarification Vector Art 3D was started by myself and the owner of Holmes Cottrell Graphic Technologies (Vector Art 2D). Hence the shared name and some shared designs. We are now different companies but I still am in contact with them and we are friends.
As Robert said the whole piracy thing is always going to be a worry for any company who supplies data over the internet or on disk and different companies choose to handle it in their own way. I can see why they choose to handle it the way they do and also why that would be frustrating. Sorry not to have a solution.
Regards,
James
