Hi gang, here is another of my off the wall projects. Mostly done on the Bot and toolpathed with Aspire. Its a model for a live steam park. Its rather large 90 inches long, 22 inches wide, and 20 inches high. Like I said its not a coffee talbe but it sure is fun to make on da' bot. Russ

Long live trains!
If you made one a little larger, it would make a heck of a playhouse for the kids.

Great work.

Russ the whole time you were making this were you saying to yourself....."I think i can, I think i can, i think i can...WOOO...WOOO!

I'm anxious to see this completed. Are you the guy who has made scale model train stations i've seen here before? Good Job Russ..

Coffee table sounds like a good idea. A friend of mine was retired from the rail road. He has past now but I bet he would have really liked that! A caboose would be fitting I think.

looks like fun

Thanks gang. Jack, yep I'm the guy. You know now that we have all talked about a coffee table it would be kind of neat especialy if it had a complete interior and the roof was glass. Hmmmmmm. I'll get some pix when the car is completed and I'll also post some pix of my next project which is a model of the local grain elevator here in Chiloquin. Russ

Looks Great,

How did you get the dimensions for this? I am looking to build an electric train for my yard and if I could find some drawings with Dims. it would be easier to build to scale.

cant wait to see the finished piece

Thanks gang. The models are really fun to build in this scale and of course using the Bot and Aspire it's almost like cheating! :)

To scale up any drawing you might find in one of the model magazines, fiirst decide what the final scale will be. In my case for this model it's a 2 inch scale model. Therefore 2 inches equals one foot. So if you find a nice set of drawings of your favorite caboose and its drawing measurement says it's 36 feet long then the finished scale model will be 72 inches long. What I do is make a spreadsheet with all of the posted measurements shown on the original drawing and the next column shows what that measurement will be on the finished model. I sometimes then copy those figures over to a copy of the drawing but most times I just print out the 'cheat' sheet for reference. Around here we have a very wonderful attitude towards scale models. That attitude says that we are looking at these models while traveling at 7 miles per hour and from a distance a several feet soooooooo, just about anything seems to be OK! :)

The car and my buildings are all destined for Train Mountain.
