Will this work for a vacuum puck type jig? Here are the specs from Gast. I am using it to hold small maple parts. I want to make a dedicted vacuum jig. What is a fair value on a used one?
DOA-V191-AA
OILLESS DIAPHRAGM VACUUM PUMP
MAX VACUUM 25.5 in mg. OPEN FLOW 1.1 CFM
MOTOR: 115 VOLT 60 HRZ. SINGLE PHASE 1/8 HP
Thanks,
Todd

It is a little small but should work.
Something around 1/3HP and 3CFM with oil bath is about perfect for the application.
I don't think I would give more than $50 for it.

that's about the size I used. though mine went to 30" but even with a big pipe vacuum chamber it would have trouble keeping up with leakage through the wood on beech and such. you don't want a pump that uses oil as the moisture in the air will contaminate the oil too fast.

You do want a pump with oil.
The oil collects everything the pump sucks in before it gets chewed up in the pump vanes.
And a pump with oil is 100% duty, meaning it will not burn up using it for your 10 hour carving job. This type of pump will last forever.

but the moisture in the air contaminates the oil and you don't get as much vacuum. I had a nice oil vac pump and after a couple of hours it lost almost 10" of vacuum because of the moisture.

Steve,
Where the heck are you cutting parts, out in the rain?
Hard to believe you can have that much moister in the air and still breath it.
