Gene - The Kollmorgen motors used on that rotary table were made where I work. In my real job, I am a mechanical engineer for Kollmorgen motors. Universal Instruments is a customer of ours. I actually used to be the manufacturing engineer for the department that makes those style motors. The motors on there are "pancake" motors, also called servodisk. The armatures are made by stamping out thin sheets of copper in a special pattern, stacking them, and then welding the tips together. The armature is just a thin disk of copper, no wires at all. The motors have very low inertia and zero cogging.

I wish I could get Shopbot to buy from us. :( We make all types of servo and stepper motors. All designed and built in Virginia, USA. :)
