First few sign carvings

Don't laugh guys... I've only had my Shopbot for a little over a month and I haven't had much time to play with it. I figured I'd keep things simple to start with. These are the first carvings I've done. I know they're nothing fancy, but I'm carving and having some fun.

very commercial stuff. i met someone who was getting a shopbot buddy in a trailer and goes to those outdoor shows/festivals to sell things like this.

For only having it a month i think those look great! We all make those type of things when we first start out. When adding photos to a post add one on each line as opposed to all on one line to keep it from stretching the post out.

Jack, Thanks for the tip on posting the photos, I'll do that next time.

I just finalized an deal for a local "Rustic Furniture" store to retail these types of signs. I showed her a few of my signs and she liked them so much, she asked if she could sell them at her store. That could be interesting.

Eric. Looks good! What wood are you using? Are you carving through a paint mask and then spraying the black?

Thanks John. It's western red cedar. A local lumber yard had a bunch of 1"x12"x24" drops that I bought for $1 each. They work great for some of these smaller signs.

I'm not using any paint mask on these. I'm spaying the black on after the sign is carved and then sanding the surface down.

The black is a stencil ink... dries in 5 minutes for sanding.

What is the name of the stencil ink and where do you get it? Also do you have any problem with it bleeding on the end grain and not coming off when it is sanded?

The brand of the stencil ink is "MARSH". I purchased it from grainger. You can get stencil ink in spray cans or by the gallon. I leave the entire outside edge of these signs black. The bleeding isn't too bad. Some boards don't have any bleeding. I'm not applying any sealer prior to spraying the ink because these aren't exactly high priced works of art to start with.

Thanks Eric, these resemble some of the work that we do with our lasers. We are starting to do larger scale items, meaning bigger than 20X24, now that we have the Buddy, and want to keep a similar "look" to our products. Fine art - no. Very, very marketable - yes indeed. They look very nice.
