I just got part works Mon.
I love it! Bye bye part wizard.
This was the first thing I drew in partworks.
The corners were the trickiest

Andre thats excellent. What material is that? Is that a job or just for play?

Jon, Thanks
This was for practice and play.
I used a scrap piece of cherry mdf.
I stained it first to get a better contrast

Thanks Frank
I'm planning on doing more, I will post them when I get time to make them
What is the difference in part wizzard and part works?

Part Wizard is made by Delcam for Shopbot they are the same people who make Artcam and it is very simular to Insignia. Part works is the new Shopbot software made by vectric and is the same or simular to Vcarve.
I have never seen Part Works but have read this is the case.

the new "Part Works" is vcarve Pro repackage for shop bot. It has way more capabilities than Part WIzard and includes cut 3d. It is a very nice package and you can upgrade for a lot less than buying vcarve pro from vetric. for current shop bot owners

Andre,
It looks like the piece is about 16" sq. Can you give me an idea on the bit(s) used and how long it took to complete? It's a really nice job.

Christian, thanks
funny you should ask how many bits were used. Only one
90 degree .5 vbit.
I broke it into a couple of tool paths just because. It took around 40 minutes to cut. I have 3-4 hours of design and tool pathing.
You were close on size it is more like 18 x 18

Import PDF and 3D files from PartWorks3D, Free Vector Art 3D Machinist, PhotoVCarve
Layer Management with control over visibility, name, color and option to lock
Imported DXF files retain the layer information from the original file
Auto Join multiple vectors within a tolerance
Auto detect duplicate shapes – allowing projects to be machined
Auto detect open shapes
Text options - Stick / Single Strike fonts, Auto Scale to fit options
Offset closed with Sharp Corners
Automatic Plate / Badge Templates with Text merge from csv, txt files
Copy circles / Objects along curves
Toolpath Options
VCarving - VCarve / Engrave any Fonts and shapes
Flat Bottom VCarve using one or two tools – End mill plus V / Engraving Cutter
Multiple Z level machining for large / deep regions
Profile Cutting for production quality machining with options for,
Tabbing – Automatic or Interactive with easy placement / removal + 2D or 3D Tab shape
Lead In / Out with options for line or arc onto the job + overcut
Ramping – Smooth, Zig-zag and spiral moves that can be limited to the Lead in portion
Sharp External and Internal corners for creating crisp beveled edges
Allowance for Overcut / undercutting profiles
Profile machine open shapes with tabs
Pocket machining
Option to Plunge into pockets
Offset and Raster strategies with final cleanup allowance and raster angle options
Control over cut direction – Climb or Conventional
3D Texturing - Unique Rapid cutting strategy for carving random chip carved textures
Drilling - Peck Drilling option
3D Toolpath Preview
High quality preview that shows what the toolpaths will cut into the material
Realistic preview shading with realistic material types and optional fill color
Delete the waste material to leave the finish machined product
Save color shaded preview image for customer approval and quotes etc.
Quick Engrave
Automatic engraving / surface marking for panel work, nameplates and badges etc.
2D Toolpath Preview
Shows the toolpath as Wireframe with arrows for cutting direction
Solid color fill that shows what material will be removed – ie corner fillets left unmachined.
Recalculate all toolpaths - If the job position or size or a changes all toolpaths can be recalculated.
Form Cutters – Ogee, Roundover + Custom etc.
Estimate Cutting Times – for costing / quoting on jobs
Copy Toolpaths – saves time setting up new toolpaths
Additional 3D Machining functioanlity in PartWorks3D
File Formats - More file formats supported including ShopBot Probe files and Vector Art 3D files
Import PartWorks3D designs into PartWorks projects for more interesting projects
Multisided machining options – Single, double and four sided machining with automatic toolpath calculation
Tabs to hold the job in place with interactive placement
Additional Radiused End Mill and Radiused Conical cutters supported
Limit Toolpath to model silhouette – reduce machining times by not cutting complete rectangular region
Z Level Roughing – significantly faster rough machining
Cut Out Toolpath – with options to either cut through or leave Tabs in place
Multiple Color Preview with option to remove Waste material
Model Slicing – Slice large / High models into machinable segments
The only common specification for both PartWizard and PartWorks is that they only generate toolpath for ShopBot machine.
PartWorks is a major improvement from SB tool package.
PartWizard was pretty much only a teaser in my very humble opinion...

Andre, that looks amazing.
Did you start with an existing image, or build that completely in PartWorks? I'm still stumped on how you make the angled 3D sides without using another program - Any Hints?

That is very nice Andre - You should write a tutorial about how you did it (GRIN!)

Ian, Neville,
I had a picture of something I really liked and I drew it completely free hand in partworks. I did not use the trace option because no 1, i wanted the practice of drawing, and the picture was not that good.
All the cuts were made with vcarve toolpath in partworks. There was a lot of node editing, centering, mirroring, off setting vectors, welding, copying, etc. The drawing took me 4-6 hours and I made 1 practice cut which at that point I went back and made some adjustments. Its amazing what you can do with basic geometric shapes.
Thank you for the compliments.
