duplicate a part

I took a picture of a bracket that has to be an exact duplicate.
It is 6.625 tall x 15" long. When I import the photo it is over 24" long x 11" tall.
When I try resizing it loses its shapes. I played with nodes but I have a lot of time in this and need to get it going.
Am I doing something wrong?

David - I usually hand trace parts like yours on a piece of paper and then scan them in. I always have to do some cleanup on the bitmap, but when I scale it using this method everything stays in proportion.

Good advice on the scanning idea, need to get my scanner running again.
I thought about probing but don't own one and as I recall they are like......$400.00?
