what materials for this sign?

well this style of sign about 3'x8'
myself trying to glue up such a panel is not really practical. I can make the parts seperatly but I don't knwo what do do for the background. they think foam will be damaged (of course I have two sheets that need to be returned I could use)
is there something I could glue to mdo to cut the texture into? they are going to paint it and they have 1000 to work with. I want to keep materials around 300.00

Have you considered a cedar blank, from a company such as Perfect Plank? They are located in Northern california. I use their blanks, and I and my clients love them. They have prices on their website, that should meet you requirements. Hope this helps.

might be able to get it done locally. but one mistep and ouch.
if I did the back in mdo do the texture with some 1/2" hdu I got as a cover sheet and the raised parts in mdo that would be easy to make and cheap if there was a problem.
