I'm not cutting any differently now than I was 6 months ago when a job did not overheat the router. I suspected dust even though I vacuum the ports after each job. So I unhooked the router, took off the top, turned it over and an inch square of powder nearly 1/8" deep fell out.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that vacuum is not enough, I would be using my compressed air and blowing out the router on a regular basis. Take the top off and blow it out if you find that it is still collecting dust. That should help you.

If it continues to over heat and you have been using the router for over a year, you might need to replace the bearings. You can do it your self or it is a low cost thing to take it to a service center. I would upgrade my bearings with ones that have a higher tolerance than the factory bearings.

Thanks. I was afraid of hurting it with compressed air. Will do this morning.

Vacuum is 2 hp. I just removed 10 ft. of hose but still have 30. This is the shortest I can go for now. Do you think it is too long?

Check your bearings. If your running a P.C. router you can get bearings at any bearing house. I would replace them with double shielded not sealed type. Search of old threads will turn up info on bearings and how to replace them. I have done this more than once over the years. Don't waist your money paying someone to do it.
