I want to find out the value of purpleheart. I know someone who has 5/4 boards 5.5" wide and are average of 12' long. Some of it figured. It has the beautiful purple color and feels real dense and heavy. But i don't know what it is worth. The guy also has cocobolo, mahogany, cirepe(?) and other exotic species.
Also what is this wood? It is very dense and heavy with that stripe down the center...

Paduak is a very cool wood but note that it has much oil in it and will not take regular finishes. It also will darken and brown with age so don't expect the orange to last forever.
Bubinga, like Purpleheart, is easily susceptible to deep color change from blade burning but is so dense that it sands off easily if you do have some of that. My first jewelry box was purple heart and I use bubinga as a "red" color trim wood on personal projects, including our own kitchen.
Both make some very fine dust that will have you picking interesting color you know whats out of your nose if you don't wear a mask and also very tiny sharp splinters.

here it's about 4.50 a bf for 8/4 costs less then American woods.
I have cut hundreds of bf and it cuts well though it is a little bit of a challenge on the cnc. I have flexed 3/8" bits cutting it. it needs a good cleanup toolpath for accuracy.

Here in Montana, I just paid $6.60 for purple heart and $10.99 for yellow heart. Of course this is from Windsor Plywood and they jack the prices way up around here. But when you only need a couple of board feet it is easier than going out of town.
