Another nice sign.

I thought John A. brought up a good point. What do you think the router time was?

Really like the design on this one. Went right into my inspiration file!
Is it made from your usual Duna? If so what weight and thickness?
Thanks for sharing.

Joe - I rarely keep account of the time on the ShopBot because I'll do a little here and a little there. This job was done at a time when my mother-in-law was on hospice and at the time of her death, so parts were done when time was available. I would guess about 15 hours of routing time altogether.

The HDU was not Corafoam from Duna and the substitute that I used was not very satisfactory. The larger letters were cut from Corafoam but the background was 15# Design Board (also known as Jasper, I think). It was very gritty and porous. While it held up the detail rather well it still was hard to finish to any degree of smoothness. I was just not very impressed.

The reason for using a substitute is a long story and not one that I will boar you with, but nothing seems to come up to what I had been used to with Corafoam.

Everything was finished with Porter acrylics.

Here's a close up that shows a little more of the texture.

small red square reminds me of the Taliesin logo (Frank Lloyd Wright)

Eric - that's where I got it...from a Frank Lloyd Wright book.

Mr Chapman that is one cool sign. I wish you or Mr Crumley would live closer I would sneak up to your shops for an apprenticeship.

Thanks for sharing

the texture is awesome on the background...is there a library of files that you can buy that will make those textures for you? or is this done by hand? or is it some sort of bit trick?

I use ArtCam Pro and there are many textures available through their software. The sandblasted look of this sign was done by using a photo of some sandblasted wood and converting it to a gray scale bitmap and then using the relief feature in ArtCam.

There is a CD of textures available from Dan Sawatzky throught SignCraft magazine. "Dan Sawatzky: 101 Texture Bitmaps". $199 at www.signcraft.com (http://www.signcraft.com).

You can produce almost any texture from a bitmap image in ArtCam but I'm not sure about other software programs.

It's not a book - it's a CD with the textures he has developed for use with flat bed routers.

Art Path is the Gerber software that links to routing systems. It is a different animal than ArtCam.
