Hi, Does anyone have any info on chipload and cutting speed using a 4 flute 1/16" tapered ball nose solid carbide bit. I'm cutting in 5/4 Cherry.

Any "pitfalls" to watch for in regard to cutting?

You may want to run a rough cut with a bigger bit

I am running a roughing pass with a 1/4" end mill. Allowance set to .02"

Just am curious about the chipload and in/sec that would give me the best performance. Or at least a place to start.

I'm thinking ....with a .o2" allowance set with the roughing pass that 3"/sec isn't too fast for such a shallow pass. Also, offset is 6%.

Paul - I have run a 1/16" tapered ball nose in cherry with the same offset at 2.5" per second and about 8% stepover, 19000 rpm. I had no problems with those settings. I could probably cut more aggressively. Maybe start out at 2.5" per second and then bump it up on the fly if it is going well.
