I had a lightning strike last Sat. evening and it disabled my telephone and dsl service. My shopbot computer was connected to the dsl and now I cannot connect to the bot. I have connection to the internet but not the bot. I have tried 4 different ports and still nothing. I have a prt alpha about 4 years old. What should I check? Thanks, Bruce

Bruce, if neither computer works and you know that the USB ports are functional, I'd try a new USB to Serial adapter (at the control box). I've had some lightening strikes take out serial ports, motherboards, and an old PRT controller.

Now, whenever I know a bad storm is coming through, the first place I go is to the shop to unplug everything!

Did you try to reload the firmware ?

There is a procedure for that, don't have it handy right now.

Going to try a usb to serial cable to see if that works. Can't download firmware if you cannot make connection.

Not sure if this will help but....

To install firmware you need to

Hit the load firmware in the control software
Turn OFF your control box
Wait 30 sec
Turn ON Control box
Firmware will load automatically

If the pc can't communicate with the controller you can not reload the firmware.

I called support and got me running. I was downloading the firmware incorrectly (duh). I guess you call that a senior moment. Thanks guys for all the help, Bruce

Best to find another IOGear adapter as not many other brands play well.
