Anyone know if it's possible to get a 12"(+) Z on a PRSstandard 96x48? I have some folks interested in shaping foam blocks and 6" would not be enough.

I questioned SB about three months ago about my PRS Standard. They told me that it is possible but would be a royal pain to do. They said I would be better off selling my machine and purchase a whole new PRS with the 12" Z factory installed.

Okay I just took delievery of a 12" z indexer for my 12" Z axis Alpha. Maybe a stupid question but does the PRS Standard have the aluminum rails like the Alpha? If so you could most likely just buy an extra set of rails and stack them to make it work. Just a possibility. Hopefully I am correct.

You need:

1) A 12" Z axis from ShopBot
2) 2pcs AL extruded table sides & hardware to attach to legs (not "rails")
3) Drill 8 holes per leg to accommodate additional table sides.
4) Time & Labor to install it.

It isn't all that difficult...BUT you should have a 7.2:1 or better geared motor on the Z to overcome the additional spring force of the 12" Z.

Thanks for the responses. After I read these I called sales. They told me they would not offer a 12" Z on the standard. They indicated that the Motor on just isn't powerful enough. I said the interest was cuttings foam and they quickly told me it didn't matter. Perhaps I got someone on a bad day.

Eric, It may not be all bad. They may be being very truthful with you. I have found them to be very honest with me. Take it as a sign as to not do what you want to do!
