Is bass wood for exterior a good idea
Asume yes because of being in pine family?

Basswood is a deciduous tree (pines are conifers). It's a soft hardwood and is not decay resistant. It's good for carving though (with hand tools).

CNC carving on Basswood yields a lot of "stringy" chips/shavings that nearly plugged up my Dust Collector tubing. The long stings wrapped around the copper ground wire inside the hose and looks like moss in a pond of water.

Excellent wood for chip carving! I've used it for many chip carving projects over the years.
