For the last three weeks I have been involved with cutting a inside sign for a new store that is opening in a Primer Outlet Mall in my area.

The first picture is of 2 2" x 20" x 48" pieces of cast acrylic that cost $1000 for each sheet. It weighed 100 lbs.

I did a rough cut with a 0.50" End Mill at 150 IPM. You can see that I did not use my dust collection. I did not have enough material with my clamps to be able to use dust collection. When I did the finish cut, each sheet weighed only 30 LBS.

The letters fit through a sheet of .075" plywood covered with black formica. The letters are 1.75" thick with a 0.25" piece that remails to holed the letters on the back side of the plywood.

As you can see the letters are back light.

Every one was very pleased with the sign.

....as are we!

Were you nervous cutting that expensive material? I would be...

I paused for a couple hours before I actually started cutting. I spent a lot of time being sure that the material was set up correctly for both the acrylic and the plywood.

After I cut the first acrylic letters, the second was a piece of cake.
