Has anyone tried using a brad point boring bit in a spindle? I might be doing a job creating cribbage boards in large quantities (current nesting requires punching 8800 1/8" holes) and the air drill is just to slow for this operation. Or would I be better off to use a 1/8" down spiral in the spindle to do this drilling? The problem is finding a down spiral a true 1/8" in diameter (like a brad point boring bit) for the pegs to fit properly.

Current material is going to be 3/4" MDF that will be painted and have decals applied in the center oval of the board. Yes, I know over time (and a lot of game playing) there is a chance that the hardwood pegs will enlarge the softer MDF board, but this is what the customer wants to start with.

Thoughts and feedback/suggestions welcome.

Don...
I have done this often using the boring machine bits. Havent used any of the "drill press" types tho. Settings on 5mm were 5K rpm 3ips plunge. That should get you close.

Don,

Did you run a time estimate on those 8800 holes? i am just wondering how much machine time you have there.

Kenneth,

If I use the air drill, time is around 13 hours for drilling and cutting. If I use the spindle, time is around 3 hours for drilling and cutting.
