Here is a project we just finished just in time for Ruffed Grouse season. Posts and rails are Cherry, decorative panels were cut from 3/16 aluminum sheet.

There are patterns that some guys use that cut designs out on a plasma cutter that look like this. Is the aluminum sturdy enough to kep someone from bending this? Looks beautiful.

Posts and rails were done using conventional tools. Post caps and aluminum were done on the Bot. How is my "old girl" treating you?

Jack...
Not really. There is no way this design could pass either the 4" sphere rule or the lateral force sections of the code. But it looks cool. Artwork by the Owner

Frank...
This lakeside cottage is like a monument to the grouse. I am sure they will like it. Well, except during grouse hunting season :D

Beautiful job Gary! Would you mind sharing the bits/feed/speeds for the aluminum? Any coolant? I've played with aluminum, but the pieces I had were an odd alloy, and turned out less than perfect...

Thanks,
Ron

I am not sure what alloy/blend this was, but was "off the rack" from the local sheet metal shop.

1/4 Belin single O. 12K rpm. .1ips plunge, .5ips move

Single pass, full depth + .050 into the mdf it was screwed down to.

Surface sprayed with WD-40 prior to plunge

About 35 min per panel to cut
