Seems like my 2006 prt96 is giving up the ghost

The old v3.54 boards coming out....but what to put in?

Everything's standard: steppers are Oriental A6497-9412KTG (four wired wago ended)
power box is SP-300-48 Mean Well
I've got Scottish electricity (240v)...2 phase. (Thought I'd throw that in, no stereotype jokes please)
Thats it....just a gaping hole waiting to be filled basically.
I'm thinking gecko and mach3, but know not much!

All and any recommendations welcome.

Thanks
Ted

Ps Ive no "need for speed" as it's mostly aluminum sheet I cut

Get a hold of Mke Richards.

I think he will suggest a pmdx 122 breakout board and g203 geckos along with a larger voltage power supply in the range of 70 volts.

If you could find an old 4g upgrade board, that would work pretty good, but they have stopped making them.

If you stuck with your power supply, and only need to run 4 motors the gecko G540 would do it. You can find them on ebay for 250 dollars.

thank Ken,

I'm cutting Alu sheets mostly and it needs only a snails pace so I'm really not in need of a good pimping! The G540 is really tempting tho, but you know what they say about what sounds to good to be true.... or am I just too sceptical of an easy solution.

the G 540 is good for 50 volts and more amps than the motors will use. You are probably looking at 500 dollars us plus a little wiring to get this working with mach3.

Shopbot sells a new control box complete for around 2700 dollars if you want to consider that.

<<CHOKE>>

Plus for me International shipping, Import tax, exchange rate, card charges!!! I'll have to lie down now!

BTW how do I make the z axis motors run from the board's A axis, any idea?

I think it is just a few settings to change, but i have not done it.

A toll free call to tech support will fix you up though.

Ted,

Sorry I can't help you with the control board, if you need to phone Shopbot as you know we do not have toll free to the USA, but you can call for 1p per minute by dialing 0844 86 186 86 and then following the instructions.

Best of luck

Paul
