The other day their was a link to a video of a guy who used the shopbot to cut glass. Well today i got an email from Legacy Ornamental mills where they were working on a project to cut glass for a stained glass project to be released soon and was featuring "our own" widgetworks pal and his diamond engraving tool. So he's getting around...good for him!
I would be interested to see how the bot would be used in a stained glass project. So yet another use for the shopbot!

Jack,
The problem with cutting stained glass on a CNC machine is that the glass must be flat. Many of the glass types used in the making of "stained glass" are somewhat uneven in thickness. Not to add that many have a texture. This makes useing a CNC very problematic.
Mirror and window ( clear ) glass does work.

The widgetworks diamond drag is spring loaded so you could use it.

Thanks for the "plug" Jack and Jerry. We're excited to see the new video as well.
We have customers all over the world using our CNC Diamond Drag Engraving bit. It's amazing to see what folks have created.
As Jerry said, our bit is spring loaded and we do have a number of customers using it to cut stained glass.
Here's a link to our web page with pictures and details:

The "uneven thickness" that Michael mentioned shouldn't be a problem, though heavy texture would be. In my limited experience with stained glass, I've only seen glass textured on one side. Maybe folks are scoring the non-textured side - I'm not entirely sure.
