On this castle bed the siderails will be made out of 2x12 pine that will be painted white then i was going to vcarve some designs in it and wanted to mask it with something that i can buy from Lowes that wasn't real expensive if possible. I want to just spray some paint into the vcarved parts, remove the mask and be done.

it may take awhile to put on but you could try masking tape

I tried some cheap contact paper once. It worked good and the paper can off fine. The glue didn’t! I did manage to worry off the residue, but the time spent wasn’t worth it.

A word of advice on V-carving with paint mask...

Make sure you set you cut depth per pass shallow enough that only the beveled part of the tool cuts material - even if you're cutting foam and the bit can handle cutting deeper.

I had some deep letters that I was cutting with a 1/2" diameter 45 degree cutter. The carbide was sharpened both on the bevel and on a flat that continued up the bit from where the bevel stopped. I was using professional paint mask, but getting terrible tearing instead of a clean edged cut. I had PartWorks set to cut it in multiple passes, but it turned out my depth per pass was too high. Once I figured things out everything was easy!

Poor edge quality gets brought up a lot on the forum, perhaps others are running into the same problem I did.

I learned to only use 3M paint mask.

I found the same with contact paper with that damn glue...

Beware of BLUE tape because he glue will remain if using cetol or similar products and the tape should only be on for a couple of days, not in the sun.

I used the blue tape as a border on the teak rails using cetol... the glue stayed and had a heck of a time cleaning up.

The GREEN tape has a longer life (I think 5 days?)
