I am in the proess of stretching my bot from 4X8 to 5X8.

The setup I have now is an azek plenum over a 3/4" ply base.

I am told 3/4 ply is not available in 5X8.

I could bolt on a 12" piece or use somthing else.

Any sugestions?

5x10 plywood is also avaiable at my supplier, but you will have to find a hardwood type of supplier in your area.

Bob,

I used 2 layers of 60x60x3/4" baltic birch plywood laminated together to build my plenum. I laid out a full sheet then a half sheet, then overlapped a full sheet over the seam and another half sheet to get everything sized properly. I used a couple of sheets of 3/4" MDF along with a bunch of weights to use as "clamps". When drying was domplete, I surfaced the plenum and then carved the plenum channels, sealed the plenum with about 5 coats of spray-on shellac and added a spoil board. This setup gave me a good mounting base to add my vacuum motors without any chance of sagging or distortion from vacuum motor weight.

This setup has been working for 18 months with no problems.

Bob...
I did mine similar to Don, but in the other direction. I used 4 x 10 MDO (actually 2) and used a 1/8" full length spline between a 12" rip that I added on. I put the splice under a fully glued plenum.

Sorry to get off your subject but I am interested in how you are stretching your table to 5' wide? I have been wanting to do this for a while SB gave me an estimate of $3300 I felt that was too steep. I have been thinking about just buying the extrusion and doing the rest of the table by either extending what is there now or making new x braces all together.

I did mine with a 5 x 10 sheet of birch plywood and then 5 x 10 mdf I got it from DSI .
