View Full Version : Can't find tool for operation?
I just cut out a job with blind dato's and had a strange thing happen on two parts it said it couldn't find a tool to make the cut. One was a stretcher and the other was a cabinet top both with tenons. But it made the exact same cut on the other end of the same part??? I checked all my settings for those two cabinets and everything looked good. Also I made these cabinets from other cabinets that all the parts machined just fine.
I'm not sure what else to check. My machine is a PRS alpha with a spindle and I use a 3/8 bit. Thanks.
Maybe the parts were too close to one another and not enough room for the tool to pass between. This has happened to me before. Check the clearances. Thats my guess anyway!

Usually that error is due to a cut geometry that is smaller than your defined tool diameter(s)
Double check the following:
1) The Dado width % * mtl thk + side clearance is greater than .375 (I am guessing that this is OK)
2) Did you, or can you renest and see if the affected dados are shown properly marked (colors) in the nest?
3) Did steps did you perform as far as material thickness change when generating the TWD?
With that job still loaded, make an export .CAB file. Send it and the TWD to cabinets@thermwood.com with SB Link in the subject line and an explanation.
Edit: To test for Gene's theory, renest with an additional .25 between parts and see if errror persists
I even tried nesting just the one part on a sheet and still got the error. It shows the red highlighted line on one end but not the other. I will email thermwood and see what they find.
Thanks again.

Did you change the material thickness when generating the twd?
Try making a new TWD like this:
When prompted to change material thickness select [YES]
Make no changes Select [OK]
Load, renest as in prior, check for proper geometry

Make sure you chose blind dado and not barbed dado for those parts.
Nine times out of ten, the trouble will be operator error. lol
The material thickness of the top will not dictate the depth of the tenon. Only the thickness of it.
What is your tenon depth and side clearance? That needs to add up to be as big or larger than your bit size.
It does seem strange that one side cuts. Whatever the setting is, affects both sides "normally".
Sometimes changing that setting after the cabinet is made will affect the part only if you change that end of the top to full dado, and then back.
Sometimes you have to remove a part and re install it to fix issues.
Nest the cabinet in ecabs. Just put it in the batch and nest from there. It will allow you to look at each part and dado size.
When you send the export, send the hsf of the cabinet also.
