David,

Maybe it's just my small brain but no matter what I search for I can't find any collets. Even searching for "ER 25 Collets" brought up results that were just routers, no collets. :(

Any idea where they hid the collets in their store?

TIA.

I ordered a set of these from MicroMark. They seem to work OK for the stuff that I do. The price was good at $65, that's about $4.33 each. Russ

Don,

I just went to the counter and asked. Called first though, They had multiple sizes in stock, the same brand that arrived with my machine.

Be careful using off-brand or el-cheapo collets. Many of them are off spec for the RPM that we router guys run. ALSO - avoid AT ALL COSTS the collets that do both Fractional & Metric!!! Neither your HSD nor Colombo has enough thread length on the spindle nut to fully collapse those collets & you WILL have to break out the wizzer wheel or cut-off disc to cut the spindle nut off the spindle shaft. Not pretty. 5hp Colombo spindle main shafts are around $1100 by the way

Shopbot sells the correct spec collets for your expensive spindle. Last I recall they were around $25 ea. Well worth it in my opinion.

A word to the wise is sufficient...

Brady,

I get my collets from Techniks (www.technikusa.com) near Indianapolis. They are really good ER25 collets for a very reasonable price. I can also get ER25 collet nuts from them. One stop shop.

I won't trust my machine to knock-offs or want-to-be's. Not worth saving a couple of bucks and then spending thousands to repair the damage.

Don,
Technik makes all kinds of good stuff. I just wanted others to know - collets aren't a place to skimp/save money. Make sure you get them from a known good source. Looks like you knew right where to go :D

I have to agree with Brady. We only use Rego-Fix or Techniks collets on our machine. We threw out all of the 'cheapo' ones we had as it's not worth skimping when you are running a $5K spindle. Even changing collets out after 500hrs of use, which most mfgrs. recommend, a $25 collet only costs approx a nickel an hour to use. Peanuts for an hours CNC use.

Good Luck,

Tom in PA
