Well the PRT 11602-00963 arrived, it started in michigan to Ont. then Winnipeg Man. then Vancouver, the Williams Lake, BC.. It wasn't very well packaged up, somewhere enroute the palstic wrap departed leaving all the parts exsposed between the 2 table rails... a forklift forks went throught the computer box..that holds the controls and power supply..one vexta motor is damaged badly... but my question is.. the xplor52d is mangled
and if I buy one from bluearth, do I send it to shopbot for pre programming
or will it program when put online as and update...thanks Dan H.

Dan,
Buy the processor directly from ShopBot. Running a generic 52d will NOT work! These boards were heavily modified at ShopBot.
Not for nothing, but the Universe could be hinting that you upgrade to a 4G...It'll be the PRT you always wished you had from day 1.

Dan, may I suggest you go after the transport company in writing immediately as you only get a few days to lodge complaints/claims. If the driver hustled out of there in a hurry, as is common, point it out, document all of the issues, even small ones and lay it on their doorstep as it sounds like they are primarily to blame. Virtually all of them have insurance and chances are, if you hang a little tough, you'll get some degree of compensation for the damage that occurred. Buy a lawyer a drink and tell them you have $100 max for them to have their secretary attach a covering letter to your itemized list; otherwise (unfairly) you'll likely get ignored. I've been there. The reality is that the people that sold it to you aren't going to give a s**t about what "some little guy in some far corner of another country" has to say as, chances are, they're not active on the Shopbot forum (they never advertised it there) so don't feel the need for respect here. My two cents worth anyway and I'm certainly not the only one whose been there, regardless of address. Enough ranting, hope things work out :D

Advice noted Gerry, I will divide the blame equally... The folks I bought it from really didn't want to ship it...but I convinced him to, he didn't have a clue about shipping out of country, and I didn't forsee that and should have discussed it with him, then the small transport co. that picked it up and delivered it to US special..should have refused to take it...every co. that handled it , made notations about improper packaging...so I am to be blamed as much as anyone...

Did you insure the shipment?
It is a long hard thing, but you can get paid for damage.
I had a saw damaged in shipment, and after several months of harassing them, I got paid off. Lots of pictures and phone calls. It's like pulling teeth. They will claim it was not packaged well, and that could hold some merit.
If it was not packaged good enough for transport, they should not have picked it up and are at least somewhat responsible for getting involved.
If you noted the damage on the shipping ticket they are resonsible for damge to some extent. Shopbot can give you a quote on what is needed to repair it, and that is your target ammount.
If you did not note it on the shipping ticket you are out of luck I'm afraid.

Update: the older prt is functioning very nicely, Frank Smith fixed me up with a control board, I took the stepper motor apart and soldered the wires back together, replaced the gears.
The old PC Router was hunting and sparking so I went looking online,
came across some of the postings on China spindles "as cheap" as a pc.
So I went on Ebay and ordered one from "love...happyshopping" a 3kw air cooled spindle and vfd, $418.00 spindle and vfd and $226.00 shipping via
DHL.
Well it was here in 4 days, it was here before I checked the tracking...
I made a mounting for it and wired it up, I had read a weeks worth of
info on the www. about it and its watercooled counter parts, anyway after checking and double checking every connection I threw the breaker and powered it up. setup the vfd according to "Tings" instructions, the short set, then poked the start button.
It fired up then started making horrible noises, I quickly poked every thing on the vfd that could be poked then ran and threw the breaker off, there was a bad smell of melted plastic in the air, after I calmed down and started playing with the spindle, it made a ticking sound every revolution..
I determined bearings, bad bearings.. so I removed it and put it in the vice
started pulling it down, after taking the plastic top cover off, there was bearings staring at me, looking at the cover upside down the was a threaded stud..? sat down and thought about this and pulling at the stud the fan fell off it had been welded to the housing, what happened was the
VFD being 3phase out, started up anti clock wise and unthreaded the fan
jacked it out and into the housing at 24000 rpm, welding it to the housing.
THe top housing cut a circular grove in the fan, not abig amount of damage there, also turned the threads on the stud that holds the fan to the rotor and top of bearings.
The bearings, sitting there staring at me.. I used a magnate and pulled them, they are (skf) I wrote the numbers down but dont have them here.
I would suspect the bottom a little harder to pull apart..( but not much) will be identical to the top, double bearings..
Now after about a month of use, and speeds down to 3000 rpm, am very pleased with it.
have milled aluminum, and tested it to shut down on amps, have it set for 8 amps but will go to 11. as its 3 kilowatts. its quiet, and smooth well worth the price of a router.. the weak point is the vfd.. and cold solder joints..but thats anotrher story...
:)
Good for you, enjoy your machine as it will be able to produce whatever your imagination can think of...

Dan,
I spoke to another member about VFD and Air Cooled Spindle out of China. He indicated that he could not get speed control with his set up and needed to do a wrok around to be able to set up four speeds on his. How about yours? Any difficulties with spped control?
Thanks in advance.

On an other forum the china spindle was having much better luck using a Hitachi VFD set up

The huanyang vfd I have is fine now, you can increase it 1 cycle at a time , if you wanted.. I think there is only one model and it fits all sizes with the exception of input power 3 phase or single phase.
Most of the problems with these spindles are probably self inflicted as there was no info accompanying it, and all was attrieved from the web, and there is lots of misinfo out there also. such as they will overheat if run less than 100 freq. which is 6000 rpm the fan is direct coupled, it will overheat at any speed if overloaded..
At this point in time I am very pleased with it...
