Is there a way to tie into output 1 or 4? Ideally I'd like to have my dust collector turn on/off with my spindle (4HP HSD).

I've used up outputs/relays 3 and 5-8 with other things. Currently my DC uses the same output as my table fans, which means it runs whenever the machine is moving. Only really needs to be on when I'm cutting, not drilling. Thanks.

Nat, Output 4 is active on ANY file running, so I woulnd't use that one.

Tying into output one is a pretty easy task.

Are you on alpha or std machine? If it is alpha, then output one is open and available and will come on with the spindle.

If std, then let that relay turn on two other relays. One to spindle and the other to the DC.

PRS Alpha, just not sure how to use output 1 as a relay. 3 and 5-8 have the relay with the 2 terminals. Didn't see a similar set up for 1, unless I'm looking in the wrong place...

If nothing is hooked up to output one, a normal relay can not be hooked straight up to it. It requires a relay board, or simple circuit like they used to have in the old prt manual.

When your spindle contactor kicks in, what drives it is going to be 24 volts dc.

I would hook into the small wires that turn on that big contactor and install a 24 volt relay parallel to it. Let the contacts on that relay run the DC.

The third option on how to get it done would be depending on what all your big contactor turns on to run the spindle. You very well may be able to use the output of the contactor to run another relay as well.

If you want to email me and send me some pictures of the inside of your controller, I can draw arrorws about what I am talking about.

I do have a 24V relay to use, just not sure where tie into the spindle contactor (or even where that is).

Thanks for the help, I'll take another look tomorrow, and try to get some photos to you.

You will be looking for the small control wires to the contactor.

It will depend on the style contactor used. They used different ones.

Some of them had redundant contactors where two of them in series had to lock in to run something.

If you have one of those it gets even easier.

I don't think that you want to double up on Output #1 in the event that you pull more current than that output is capable of handling. One relay is fine, two may be problematic. I would call SB to be sure.

My advice would be to modify the post processor so that anywhere there is an SO,1,1 or SO,1,0 - you follow it up directly with something like SO,3,1 & SO,3,0 etc & wire your relay to physical output #3.

Brady,

He has them all used up and I don't think he will even need ouput one. He can tag off of the alpha spindle contactor.

I think you are refering to a 4g type of board.

Nat....
Since I am a little familiar with your system I assume you are using the OEM 5 channel relay board. I assume you have used all 5 channels. You can use output 1 for your dust control (as I did on my old machine) by adding a ttl relay circuit. This can either be another SB relay board (more expensive, but almost plug and play) or a third party board that meets the SB output specs (ttl source) and can handle the DC switching loads.

PM with wiring diagram on its way to you.

Thanks Gary, will give a call later today. -Nat
