Hey guys

I'm quoting PVC full size doors for exterior use

Question- what is the best way to attach butt hinges?
Drill/screw? in to edge?

Appreciate any advice

Thanks

we have always used a full length piano hinges. we have always been afraid that the butt hinge screws holding power in the pvc could not hold weight of the pvc door . We did once use hinges with thru bolts.

good luck

Well I guess you will be flush mounting the hinges in both door and jamb?

If so...and I'm sure you know, use a vix-bit to locate/center hinge holes/drill...then pre-drill with a .125 bit to screw depth.

What type/style of pvc door? Is the stile width 4.75" if so I would use at least a 2.5" screws in pvc, over time has a tendency to "pull out".

Maybe also post this question http://www.woodweb.com/cgi-bin/forums/aw.pl here.

Maybe Dave or Mike will chime in...

Hey Erminio: How thick are you doors going to be? There is a line of aluminum or SS full length hinges for doors that work very well (Roton). If you have to use butt hinges use some LONG screws and 4 hinge layout but I really don't like that idea. Can you design them for a surface mounted strap hinge and through bolt?

Thanks all for the info.

Confirms my thoughts.
Never used PVC for doors
Doors will have 4 1/2" stiles and top rails -flat center panels-1 1/2"th
They want standard doors but low maintenance.
Piano hinge might be the way to go .

thanks again
