Hi Folks.

I have until July 4th to build a junkyard style soapbox derby car for a local downhill challenge. It does not have to be an "official" racer.

I would really like to show off some Shopbot work on it. I have some ideas, but I wanted to ask how some of you might go about using the shopbot for this project.

BTW: I have a sawmill, so have lots of thick slabs of cypress, cedar, oak and other woods that I would like to use.

Any ideas?

If you want to 'steal the show' put a really nice body on the car. I would be pretty easy to probe a toy car and then cut out a full-size body made out of foam or foam/fiberglass...It would be a show stopper, regardless of whether it was the fastest car or not.

I'm partial to the Bat Mobile. Think of the fancy bat wings you could add!

All you need is a seat and a BIG rubber band!

Bill, How about a lawn chair and an inner tube?

I like the idea Brady suggested!

Thanks guys. Lots of weird ideas rolling around the neighborhood right now. I'll definitely post some photos of before AND after.

Ed, you may even get some video shots of my crash, uh, I mean... my victory!

Bill, I know you were joking, but....... Mmmmnnn. Not a bad idea.... :-)
