Pine letters

Has anyone cut small letters (in the range of 2 to 2 1/2" tall) out of 3/4" pine? How sharp detail can practically be achieved/how small a bit can cut 3/4" pine doing several thousand letters per run? Also I'd want to avoid burning in the insidr corners. This job is being done on a jigsaw now, I'm just thinking that there has to be a better way allowing an increase in capacity.

These were 1st cut about 90% through with a 1/4" bit and then cleaned up and cut all the way with a long 1/8" bit. I use RotoZip spiral 1/8" bits because they are long, 100% carbide and best of all cheap/available. You cannot go fast with them because they will start to drag/bend...Therefore, when doing the 1/4" passes, offset the original vectors so that it will leave about .01" of meat on the letters for the 1/8" bit to clean up in one pass.

Somehow the link you included failed to work. Concerning your machineing method desribed, would you consider doing this in quantitys of 5000 to 10000 letters per order, (spread across the alphabet according to need)? Second hurdle, would it be feasable somehow within 1.00 each, possibly letting cleanup or sanding to the user? Lastly, since I don't own a shopbot yet and certainly won't have time to setup for this job when I do get mine, is anyone interested in the work?

There are a lot of factors to consider on a job of this quantity. For example, the font style can greatly increase the cost of production. One with serifs would need to be run more carefully as to not clip off or chip out any small appendages. Another consideration is the stock itself. Are these to be machined out of 3/4" pine planks? What grade? If the stock can be standardized, then it makes it much easier to fixture.

As far as sanding goes, that's where the real cost is...getting into all those little spaces on letters this small is tedious.

Strange!! If I click on www.ibild.com (http://www.ibild.com) I go to brady's site. Other wise when including /images/Bean1.jpg I get the redirect. I downloaded another new spyware remover and it found several attachments not detected by Norton or Spysweeper but it still didn't help. ???? Baffled for now

Brady, be glad that guys cannot link directly to pictures on your website. Some ISP's check who is calling up the image from an outside site and are fussy who they allow to view your images. Calling the images from inside your own site should work for everyone. See image theft on Google. (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=image%2Btheft)

John, Thanks for the compliement. No arc spraying...I use Sculpt Nouveau metal coatings exclusively. Will be working with some of the patinas towards the end of the month for a new furniture line.
