I had an order a while ago for 52 corner blocks that were a little out of the ordinary.
The photos are as follows:
1. Blurry photo from the customer showing an existing block
2. The physical sample I got from the customer
3. The 3D model I created by scanning the sample
4. A test piece I did in poplar
Getting a good model from the scanner was a challenge. My scanner is a turntable style. Normally the object is placed right at the center of rotation. But that gave me just a very narrow band down the middle that i could use. So I scanned with the sample sitting at the edge. That gave a wider usable section. I picked the best 30 degree pie slice, then mirrored, copied, and blended until I had a whole.
Most of the order was done in oak, some were poplar.
Thanks,
Denver
