I have some engraving on a plaque and its cutting deeper then what the file is set at.

I'm running PW 2.5-6
The depth is to be .0255 it shows max cut depth .0255 in toolworks
SB software is cutting .034

Any ideas other then trying to reduce the depth in PW and keep cutting the file trying to get the correct depth.

Check the thickness of your Z zero plate. Then check the setting in the software.

Many who use engraving bits or even standard v bits and need really good control on depth will set z manually. you may start off with your zero plate but you should finish up with a sheet of paper and your own eyes. I am assuming you are confidant in the flatness of your spoilboard and zeroing to your material surface. And what Tom says too!

Where is the fill to check the Zero plate. I remember it during the setup, however I can't it now.

The safest way to change or check it is to go to Tools/Shopbot Setup and click through the screens.
The thickness is actually recorded in the my_variables file in the custom folder. That info is on the opening page of the Setup "wizard" as well.

If you are comfortable with a little variable modification, you can measure the thickness of your z-zero plate with a digital caliper. Then change the variable

&my_ZzeroThickness=

to the actual thickness of your plate. Mine read .121 but when I measured my plate it was actually .120 so I changed to to be the new value. I also drew an "X" on the plate where I took that measurement and this is where I always zero my bit to.

I found the file, the numbers where correct. I played with cut and was able to get things finished. Thanks for the replies.

Based upon the first post if the controller is acutally saying deeper than what it is supposed to be then it would have to be a software issue. Not a zero plate one since it would then show as a the right depth even thought it was not right?

In partworks under the toolpath does the start depth read 0.0 ?
