HSD 2.2 HP spindle noise level

I've had my PRSstandard with the Porter Cable router for a year now and though everything has been working fine I'm starting to really notice the noise level of the Porter Cable router. So I'm seriously thinking of getting the 2.2 hp spindle which is more than adequate for what I'm doing. What I need to know is how much quieter are these spindles than than the PC router especially when you're doing several hours of 3d cutting. If someone actually has the decibel ratings for these units so that I could have an accurate comparison, that would be great.

Basically Al, you won't hear the spindle running. Have known several people to try to put their wrench on a turning spindle. If it's just spinning in the air it's very quiet. What you will hear is the bit cutting in wood and some bits make a fair amount of noise but it varies by bit type and what you're cutting.

what you may find is your dust collection will end up being louder than a spindle.. so if you are running the collector the whole time you are doing 3d, you may not be any better off ... you will still have the noise but just not from the router.. and yes the spindle can be very quiet... I did put a finger to a spinning bit... just not on the cutting edge... couldn't hear the spindle turning..

you can talk with no problem with a spindle running. it is pretty quiet not any more then say a fein vac running.

Ihad to put a light on mine spindle so I know when it running. It 4hp and the vac and dust are louder.

When I go out the first thing I start is the spindle and you can barely hear it then I start up my computer that is louder than the spindle. Next I turn on the shopbot box and the fan for the spindle is just a little louder than the computer fan. in the winter my shop lights are about as loud as all that stuff running. Even with my dust collector and 2 fein vacs running you can sthll carry on a conversation.

Thanks for the replies. I was also reading through the installation material on the support section for this spindle. It looks fairly straight forward, but I thought I would ask if there is any issues people have found when upgrading to a spindle from a router on the PRSstandard?
