Bosch DWM 40L angle finder issues

I went and bought the angle finder and got it home and it does nothing. It was from an old lady who is selling her dead husbands tools so I don't think it was a con job however I put new batteries in it (the correct way) and I get nothing. Any owners out there know of anything that goes hinkey with these units?

The directions say when you put batteries in it, it automatically comes on and displays for 20s but nothing displays. When hitting the ON button does nothing. A few times when hitting the On/Hold combination made the 8888 display come up a few times but nothing now.

I took the batteries out and tested them in a flashlight and they work (new).
Are there any known issues or combinations of buttons to get this thing on that anyone can recommend?:eek:

Well that is typical for me, doing it bass-ackwards. She will take it back, she figured the batteries were dead, as did I. I'm going back over today because the old guy has TONS of tools and she has no idea of what all is there.

Before you give up on it clean the contacts and bend them slightly to put more pressure on the battery. I hope it works for you.
