Hello all!
I have gleaned so much from this site and the participants that I try to give back a little from time to time.
I make most of our signs using HDU. When we started a couple of years ago we latched on to Precision board .It costs $320.00 for a 15# -1.5" sheet. It comes out of California and we get it about 60 miles away in Greenville SC at Piedmont Plastics.
In the past few months ,I have tested Sign foam brand , and love it !
It machines smoother , and with less of the gritty texture than Precision board. It also tends to be a much more ridgid version. It costs $288.00 and is delivered to the shop.
Then recently I purchased a couple of sheets of Duna board .(The green stuff) I had made a sign for in from of the shop a couple of years ago from Duna and it looks like it did the day I put it there.
Plus the step up from sign foam is equal to the step up from Precision board .
So I ordered a few sheets along with my usual order of Sign foam.
It costs $278.00 .
Duna creates much smoother finishes and makes for an easier surface to get a great paint finish on !
If you sandwich 2 peices of the duna together, you have enough ridgidity to get by without MDO or PVC,as long as it's framed.
Kind of strange that as something tends to get better and easier to deal with it gets less expensive!
