View Full Version : Creating raised logos from 2D drawings

I have some 2D logos that I need to "puff" out in order to create visually attractive 3D logos. To do this I am thinking about purchasing Rhino Art, does anyone know of any other software that could help with this or is Rhino Art the only one?

Thank you.

Download the Aspire demo and see if that would work for you.

Todd:

Depending on how you want to puff them out you can do it in toolpathing with PW.
Example: Logo is a circle. Carve everything on the board with an area clear strategy but exclude the circle.
If you want the circle to be dome topped then you need a more robust software. Aspire will do that and more.
Certainly Rhino will create the 3-d shape but it won't output SB code and assuming you have Partworks I don't know whether you can import what Rhino will export in order to create your toolpathing. Check that out or maybe someone else will chime in with that info.

I can take Rhino models and then put them into Cut3D and then place that into Partworks. I have thought about getting the full aspire I am just not sure if I can warrant the cost quite yet. As for using regular tool paths I am trying to get some contour to them and different heights to make different parts pop, something I believe needs to be a 3D model so I can do a raster path.

I'm sure someone here could do a raised emboss on the logo for you if for a modest fee. I would but it's not my thing really. My old cnc didn't really have the cut quality to do that work so i never played with it as much.

I too am new to CNC and I am still getting the hang of it. I am more looking for the capability to do this since I have several 2D drawings from different customers that I want to turn into 3D reliefs. All of these customers are ones that have never had any kind of 3D logo before. That is why I am considering the purchase of RhinoArt (a plugin for Rhino 3D) so I can create a relief in Rhino and then export it into Cut3D for use in partworks. I was mostly just wanting to know if anyone knew of other programs with similar functionality.

Good for you Todd.

All of us should follow your lead and lend a helping hand. That way everyone profits.

Todd,

How are you coming on the 3D investigation?

I like your description “Puff up your logo's”. I'd be glad assist with a few Puff Ups but it should be stated this is only one step in the process. Send me a DXF or two and lets see how you do.

This is an example of "puffing up" a logo using 2.5D tecniques. DXF provided by signmaker. Toolpath strategy by GCJR. Profile bits are a poor mans 3d. Real 3D is slow and sometimes not profitable.

Gary,

Well, that's a new one on me. Please tell me what GCJR is and the process. I might not be the only one in the dark with this process.

Beautiful carving. Everything about it smacks of PRO.

Don,

Well, that answers one part of the Puzzlel. I'm not going to turn this computer off until I learn the other secret part.

Don is right. The Kid had a big part in that piece. If I remember right, it was about 15" by 25" and 5/4 thick Cherry. 9 bit changes and reverse side machining to both pocket and add a 1/8" index slot for the gauges. The rounds were done with a Magnate 3/16 radius pointed roundover and the Logo was done using a 1/8". Area clearance was done with a 3/8 mortise compression, a 1/8 and 1/16" endmill.

There were some real lessons in getting the multiple bits to zero well over that large area and in getting real accurate geometry entered into VCPro for the roundovers. Vectors were provided by the Yachtbuilders sign company.

Other than a day of sanding there is no magic. Just a couple of ShopBot rookies taking their time, and doing a good job.

Here is a pic of the installed plaque.

Gary,
That is an excellent sign. I like the smooth eloquent lines with the natural wood.

Joe,
I sent you an email with the logo I am working on. Any help getting this logo converted would be appreciated however, I am wanting to learn how to do it so I can do more in the future. I had originally found that RhinoArt will do this "puff" feature but I didn't know if there was any others.

Todd,

Perhaps you should sent the logo to www.jcrumley1@cox.net (http://www.jcrumley1@cox.net). This a secure link which isn't monitored by the Chinese or Russians. It boares them stiff.

Can a texture be brought into v-carve pro from a jpeg?

tmerrill

Mick,

VCP cannot create textures from a .jpg, you would need Aspire for that.

But VCP (and Aspire) has a texturing tool that can create patterns and textures using 2D toolpaths.

Hang in there Jerry,

Once they get your address or phone number they won't leave you alone. Fortunately I purchased ArtCam so I tell them that. Then they go away.
