View Full Version : A Need for Speed, Anyone?
I stumbled across this vid today and said "Holy router bit, Batman! Look at that thing go!"

I love my old PR but I reckon it would take it a month of Sundays to cut that. How do the newer Bots compare?

mark...
Watching the Vid is cool. Makes me want to call "shenanegans" on the 4000 and 16000 mm/sec feed rates tho. they say its a 460mm long workpiece. takes 4-5 seconds to make a pass, that about 100mm /sec or 4ips.
current machines can move that fast, but the posting on that vid is awesome. looks like they have used an optimizer to insert gcode arcs as a transition to/from all Z motion.
I think a low mass special purpose machine could be made from SB parts to approach those speeds, but it would have to run on optimized gcode as the SB doesnt allow gcode arcs output to the Z

my older PR cut Lithos almost as fast as my PRS stanndard before I upgraded it to the 4g now it cuts just as fast.
Here's another one, Gary, that while not particularly fast, is awesome and unusual to say the least:

I want one, but only if it'll fetch the newspaper as well! :D

Yeah, I've been thinking about the 4g upgrade but evidently SB doesn't offer it anymore.

Hi Mark
See this post.

Dan
Well thank you, Dan. I had done a search and ended up in a thread that claimed the 4g had been discontinued due to too many problems with it. Hopefully that has been ironed out? I'll call Frank next week.
It tics me off though. I upgraded my control box some years ago to the tune of about $800.00, then they came out with the 4g a few months later. Had I known, I would have waited and just got the 4g. $1,495.00? Ouch! But it seems like the folks that have it are happy with it.
Anyone NOT happy with it? Post now or forever hold your peace. ;)

I watched it and when it first started the 16000 cut it took 6 seconds. At 4000 it took 10 seconds.

I cut 3d files at around 4-5 IPS on my PRS Standard. The key is to set your ramp values correctly for 3D work, and pick a Z speed that can keep up with your X, and Y feed rates. Brady Watson has written quite a bit on this topic.
