Here are some pictures of the semi complete Cub Scout Tool Boxes that my brother is building with his Cub Den.

He worked with me on the design and we both cut the major components (Ends: One with BSA Logo and handle hole, plus nail hole starters, and the other with Pack and Den numbers V Carved into it, plus sides with each Cub's name on his Box, plus a tool separator). My brother cut the other components. All were done from clear pine. Total cost was probably $25-30 per box, plus finishes (prestain, stain and poly). Expensive, but teaching young people to build with their hands is always a good investment! A lady told my brother the other day that she still has HER son's tool box from when he was in Scouting (30+ years ago!)... I hope these young folks enjoy these and remember them fondly ALL their lives. Just think, these will be nice enough that they will cherish them. Their kids will cherish them. Maybe even Grandkids will be seeing these... they are really nice.

Very nice work. Also, i think that hammer is bigger then the scout is.

This project has less to do with how they are made and out of what material then the bonding experience that is shared. You can see it in the pictures. Hopefully that is a snapshot that the kids will file in the memory banks and tell their kids one day.

This is one of the fun things about being a dad or grandpa:D

Amen Jack!

Thanks Guys. This was fun for me, even though I am slightly removed from the Den. My brother works with these young boys, and it is my pleasure to be working with some older boys in our local Troop.

Randy: that young man with the hammer is my nephew. He is a fun little rascal. He asked his Dad if I had done this work with my pocket knife. ( I told his Dad that he should respond in the affirmative. I could "go for" some of THAT kind of legendary reputation!"

Some of my memories from Scouting are some of the best that I recall. I am sure there are others here who feel much the same. I really enjoy "giving back" through the Scouting program.

Thanks again.
