XP decided it needed to renumber the COM ports after I used a wireless keyboard - since then the spindle control software won't start. I've un-installed the SB control software and re-installed 3.6.36 (was on .32) - I hit "TR" and I can see the spindle control window blink on to the screen but it vanishes again and doesn't appear to be running.
I've noticed since the re-install there is no .ini file in the spindle control directory under virtual tools. Help! :)

Not sure if this will help, but I had a similar situation (with different cause) that could only be fixed by unplugging and re-plugging the spindle USB cord or re-booting the computer. I may also have had to uninstall the spindle COM port from within the device manager before unplugging/re-plugging USB.

I suspect the cause after the re-install is the lack of the .ini file that tells the software what com port to use. Can someone provide me with an example that shows the contents of that file?
tnx.

Gene,
I believe that some time ago, the spindle program stopped using the .ini file and is all in the windows registry now. The port setting may have gotten corrupted. Since you can't click on the spindle program (rpm) to bring up the fill in sheet, you'll have to fix it in the registry. If you're comfortable with nosing around in Windows Registry (regedit.exe), you can go to...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\ShopBot\Virtual Tools\Spindle Control\Main
Once there, double click on "port no." and change the value to the port that it is supposed to be. You should then be able to start the program.

Not sure if this will help, but I had a similar situation (with different cause) and did all those things john mentioned above... my problem ended up being the iogear hub that came with the shopbot. Replaced that and all was good.

@Scott - Thanks, I'll give that a shot and see if it works.
@Jeff - The odd thing is that the 'bot is hooked up to the hub and the spindle goes into a dedicated high-speed USB card that I've been using since '08.
thanks!
