This molding was a customer request as seen in the internet. I found it on the Hafele website @ $501 per 8' stick. With the help of Tim Merrill I was able to cut it on my machine.

4' & 8' Model & design by Tim Merrill
Toolpathed in Cut 3D
Centurion 1/8" Tapered Ballnose @ 5/4ips 2.25 hrs @ 7% for the 8'
Sealed with SherWil High Build Sealer
MLC Vintage Glaze "Van DYke Brown" wipe off
Overnite dry and burnish with Scotchbrite pad
3 coats SherWil MR Lacquer

It will be installed as a crown molding on a job I am just finishing up. Hopefully the Owner will allow me to take and post some pics.

If you charge your customer $499.00 per stick, you're still saving him/her money! :D

Gary,

It pays to have an account. I'll sell you as much as you need at $350/stick.

Nice work on the layout and carving.

Gary,
Looks like you got 2 grand worth there on the table. Even at $250.00 each you would be saving him 50% however i have a feeling your client could probably afford the full bill and better yet you exlain that what you are giving him is CUSTOM CARVED moulding, not mass produced ****.

Keep in mind you need to tip your helper there (tim) so make it worth your while.

Wait...So you bought these online & are trying to pass them off as stuff you machined???!!!

That's right up there with mounting road kill. :D

Thanks for posting Gary,

I always enjoy seeing what you're doing. This sparks an interest in designing decorative borders. It seems to me, armed with a couple brad point round overs and strait bits there are some good possabilities. I've need to try out some of your techniques. They are spectatular.

Note Hafele's is a small flat molding. GC expanded it into a crown and a pretty good size one at that. He damned well better not have charged less!

Gary,

A beautiful accomplishment! You really do NICE work! How did you settle upon this design? Was it something the customer had seen, something you suggested? How did it come into the conversation?

Monty...
The customer saw it online, and of all places the KrapMaid sight. I do have a friend that is a dealer for them and she told me that it was a Hafele molding.

After I saw both the size and prices, I made contact with Tim Merrill, as he had posted a similar piece. An arrangement was made with Tim to provide the models I needed, and voila!, a link to D/L them was in my inbox.

Since I do very little 3D work, mostly as a result of the software collection moving at the speed of cash, it is a lifesaver to have the resources of other ShopBotters available at reasonable prices. Production sharing at its finest.

Thanks again to Tim for the help, and to the rest of you for the kind words. Well, except for the roadkill referrence!

Now that it was mentioned i did see a similar design as an accent on some cabines but it was only like an inch wide, it was nice but the cabinets were expensive because of it. This is so much nicer.:D

Here is a couple pics of the molding. An inside 135 corner and outside 90. In order to get the look right, I had to add a plinth strip. I hope the Brothers Greene dont mind me taking a few liberties with this job.

The job is a knotty cherry kitchen, installed in a full log home for one of our repeat customers. My fifth kitchen in 30+ years. Heres a shot of the pantry/oven corner:

It really does a lot for that kitchen. From a design point of few, you always want to keep the eye moving...Without that trim, your eye gets stuck on the plain doors.

Gary, nice job. I make a 2" version of that, sells for $21.6 per foot.
Would like to see it on a cove/crown. Maybe I'll try that.

Steve...
I surely did a simple version of this by screwing down a 5" stick and cutting the weave into the center of it. A few passes on the shaper and it was a mission style crown.

Someday I hope to be able to manipulate the models, and posssibly carve it into a large radius cove rather than the mission style for this job. This customer picks simple clean lines for everything. I was actually surprised at the weave selection, as it is much more ornate than anything else in the room.

I like your molding as the extra "rows" really show off the weave. Thanks for sharing.

Gary, putting that weave on a cove is easy in artcam, here is a quick mockup.
I would think Aspire could do this to, although I don't know the weave in Aspire.

Also very easy to do in Aspire.

Gary,

Get Aspire and we will get you up to speed fast. Until then, you have my number.
