I have no clue what's going on. the preview looks right but the toolpath makes the part with a flat top and not the 1/2 round. no clue why. everything else cuts right. I am cutting below the material so the top should not be cut off. looking at it running my machine is following the toolpath. the picture is not great but the part has a flat top.

I can't open your Aspire file, since I don't have v3.09 - but visually, I'd say that you have 2 circles defining your machining boundary - hence the reason it only machines a donut & not the entire deal. Observe what vectors are selected when you double click on the 3D toolpath.

You have calculated the finish pass using an end mill. Is that what you really want?

Preview picture shows a finish pass calculated using an end mill but machined with a ball nose.

yep chose a straight bit cut it with a ballnose.

I would have liked to do this in 3d but I can't find a 1/4D roundover bit.

Eagle America has 1/8" radius pointed roundover bits. If they have them, most likely others do to.

Well that'll do it!

Ya I forgot about them but this is needed today so no chance. my local place did not have them. there were two different profiles but they all used the 1/4" and 1/2" roundover and a straight bit. it's so much smoother and cleaner doing it in 2d.
My customer brought me a sample from this high end cnc place and man was it clean and smooth. they used better mdf but still it was so much smoother then I could ever get.
but at a much higher cost. but it looked like they did it all in 2d.
