Does anyone recall a thread which contained a modification to a fien shop vac which replaced the orange container with a much smaller .75" material box? The box might have been 16wx16dx12h or something. It seems like I remember a file with drawings.. I thought it would be easy to find through the search however I'm not seeing it...

Here were the Fein boxes that we made. This was in our Shopbot assembly photo post from a couple years ago. Alison Stoddart

Allison- It was your design that I was remembering.. I guess it nothing too complicated. I thought there was more to it. Are the top/motor housing attached some how? thanks!

Sorry about the delay responding. The Fein heads just sit on top of the box. The round parts on top of the box mimic the way the head normally sits on the vac body.

Since this design doesn't appear to use the Fein vac filter for the motor, have you had any problems with debris getting into the motors? Any improvements you would make to the design?

There's been no issue with not having the filters - the MDF bleeder board on our vac table acts as the filter. It's a really simple design that has worked really well. We originally built the boxes because we couldn't connect the Fein canister to our vac table piping without having air leaks. The boxes solved that.

Here is my version. I wanted to be able to place the vacs in/out of the main shop to cut down on extra heat. I have the motors held down with simple wood clip which are screwed on. I can lift it by the handle. Seems to be working well. I designed and cut these out in ecabinets. If anyone wants the file just ask.. cheers
